The software can be used for unmanned air vehicles as well as for different autonomous platforms. GCS software integrates to MiniSteer, which is the generic control unit developed by Otonom Teknoloji for unmanned and autonomous systems. Multiple functions can be controlled from a single node on the GCS software, such as payload control, sensor data visualization, mission planing, emergency communication and navigation management.
Different platform support
In order to make the software support different platform needs, the product development team carried out feature oriented domain analysis during the design and development phases. The software is also developed in line with the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) standard. Unmanned systems which already are compliant with JAUS standard or have JAUS compliant MiniSteer control unit on board can be easily integrated to ground control station software. Thus, it is possible for platform manufacturers to avoid high costs by eliminating the need to develop GCS software specific to each unmanned vehicle.
Successful track record with existing unmanned vehicles
GCS software performs navigation management, mission planning, sensor data visualization and payload control of Otonom Teknoloji’s existing unmanned system solutions successfully which are “Tepegöz, solar-powered unmanned airship”, “Doruk and Dolunay aeorostat systems”.
For the software design, development and productization stages, Işıl Kolağasıoğlu, Otonom Teknoloji Deputy General Manager who is responsible for Programs, said “We successfully employed the GCS, which is designed to be utilized for various platforms, integrated within our company’s different unmanned systems. The GCS software is developed as a result of domain and market analysis to best meet the customer requirements. The Product Line methodology employed, makes GCS very cost effective to be modified in short time to meet a variety of user and platform needs.” GCS software is a very cost effective solution not only for UAV controls but also for the platforms that require integration with geographical information systems, and sensor data visualization interoperability.
Among Otonom Teknoloji’s other projects are “Solar-powered autonomous airship platform, TepeGöz”, “Aerostat system, Doruk”, “Compact sphereoid aerostat system, Dolunay” and “Generic control unit, Ministeer” for unmanned and autonomous systems.
